In Greek Mythology, Chaos was the first of the Primordials and describe as an primordial god of the void that creation came from. According to Hesiod's Theogony, He was also sometimes considered a Primordial god. He is the father and creator of Erebus (Darkness), Nyx (Night), Eros (Love/Color), Demiourgos (Fire/Water), Tartarus (Father Air), Gaia (Mother Earth). Tartarus and Gaia was brought forth Ouranos and Typhon but later Tartarus is died after Gaia was married his son Ouranos and brought forth Titans. but Nyx and Erebus brought forth Aether (Light), Hemera (Day), Moros (Doom), Oneiroi (Dreams), Nemesis (Retribution), Momus (Blame), Philotes (Affection), Geras (Aging), Thanatos (Death), Hypnos (Sleep), Eris (Strife), Apate (Deceit), Oizys (Distress), the Sisters of Fate and the Keres. Chaos was first of all the gods and the creator of creation. He is also considered the god that will destroy existence and return everything to the chaos from whence it came.

Chaos makes its only appearance in God of War: Ascension, where she is seen fighting in the war between the Primordials seen in the game's introduction. The GoW Ascension artbook reveals that Chaos is the female red Primordial who embodies life itself. She is seen fighting Ourea, the personification of the mountains. The blood splashed from her face created the Furies.
In the beginning, there was Chaos. And from that darkness, a single spark of light gave birth to life. The Void of Chaos was combination of All Created Evils of Chaos that was created during the Great War. After the Great War, Zeus asked Hephaestus to forge Pandora's Box using the Flames of Olympus to contain Chaos. When Kratos opened Pandora's Box, different aspects of Chaos were released into Zeus and the other Gods.

  +
Chaos is also mentioned by Gyges in the God of War comics, where she is said to be the mother of Ouranos, who is Gyges's father. However, the tie-in novelization for the original God of War has Athena mention that Chaos was a primordial realm conquered and brought to order by Ouranos.
As Kratos killed each of the Gods, he ended up unintentionally releasing the powers of Chaos that each God held within him/herself, and, as a result, further plunged the mortal world into a state of Chaos. By the end, when Kratos has finally killed Zeus and destroyed all of Olympus, the entire world is in a state of Chaos. However, even when all seemed lost, Kratos, in his self-inflicted death, unleashed the power of Hope to the mortals, granting them the power to overcome Chaos.

Chaos is mentioned in the God of War II manual under Gaia's section, with the aforementioned Titan being said to have been born from Chaos. She is also mentioned in the Island of Rhodes hidden website of God of War II, where the first paragraph states that Chaos was "nothingness", and that, alongside Nyx, it created the universe. This was later retconned by the God of War comics and Ascension, which both show Ouranos as the creator of the universe.
In a sense, Kratos' destruction of Olympus and unleashing of Chaos could be seen as the opposite of how all was created, according to Greek myth. In the beginning, the world was formed out of Chaos, and now, in the end, the world had become consumed in utter Chaos.

  +
The word "Chaos" is used by the goddess Persephone when she states that the Pillar of the World's destruction would lead to the world "reverting into Chaos". This would seem to indicate that, much like in actual mythology, Chaos was a primordial realm of nothingness and/or disorder. This proves to be true as in the end of God of War III, having killed Zeus along with the other Olympian Gods, Kratos completely reverted Greece back to into Chaos.

Omega (God of War)

This article contains lore based on real-life sources of the Greek mythology as introduced from the God of War Greek era.

This world is the birthright of those who were born to the son of Chaos, father of the Universe.

Gyges

Chaos (Greek: χάος) is the original Primordial entity who personifies life itself and is the mother/grandmother of the other Primordial deities, one of whom gave birth to the Titans, who in turn birthed the Gods of Olympus.

Greek Mythology

In Greek cosmology, Chao was the void that preceded all of creation as well as the deity embedded in it. It represented the disordered state of the Universe prior to the emergence of the other primordial gods. Chaos is the progenitor of Tartarus (Abyss), Eros (Love), Erebus (Darkness), Nyx (Night) and Gaia (Earth).

Gaia herself then brought forth Ouranos, the starry heavens and her male equivalent, to be her companion. With him, she gave birth to the twelve original Titans, along with the three Cyclopses and three Hecatonchires.

As for Nyx and Erebus, they first brought forth their opposites in the form of their first two children, Aether (Light) and Hemera (Day). Later, by herself, Nyx would give birth to lesser deities that each embodied one of her traits, such as Moros (Doom), Oneiroi (Dreams), Nemesis (Retribution), Momus (Blame), Philotes (Affection), Geras (Aging), Thanatos (Death), Hypnos (Sleep), Eris (Strife), Apate (Deceit), Oizys (Distress), the Sisters of Fate, the Keres and even Charon the ferryman of Hades.

In the God of War series

Chaos makes its only appearance in God of War: Ascension, where she is seen fighting in the war between the Primordials seen in the game's introduction. The GoW Ascension artbook reveals that Chaos is the female red Primordial who embodies life itself. She is seen fighting Ourea, the personification of the mountains. The blood splashed from her face created the Furies.

Chaos is also mentioned by Gyges in the God of War comics, where she is said to be the mother of Ouranos, who is Gyges's father. However, the tie-in novelization for the original God of War has Athena mention that Chaos was a primordial realm conquered and brought to order by Ouranos.
