[edit] Greek Mythology
In Greek myth, one of the primary symbols of the sea god Poseidon was the trident. He used it himself as his weapon and possibly has more than one tridents, and could also most likely use it to create thunderstorms, and strong tital waves.

During the Challenge of Poseidon, Kratos finds this magical trident within the Poseidon's Chamber. With it, he can dive underwater, and he can swim and breathe underwater infinitely. The trident then becomes a much needed item to traverse the rest of Pandora's Temple. In God of War II, Kratos has the trident in his possession at the very beginning of the game, and uses it throughout the whole game. he will most likely have it in God of War III as well.
