Stone Masons Chisel Tip

The Stone Masons Chisel Tip is an item used by Kratos to unlock magically sealed gates in God of War (2018). The item is necessary to progress through the main story and is also needed to access optional content of the game.

History[]

The chisel tip is but a tiny fraction of a gargantuan chisel that belonged to the fallen Jötnar, Thamur, who was known as the greatest stone mason to ever be. When Thor murdered Thamur out of genocidal impulse, he fell upon a village in Midgard and froze the surrounding area with his dying breath, burying the chisel under a nigh-impenetrable layer of ice.

Some time during the Desolation, Kratos and his son, Atreus had to embark on a journey to reach the realm of the Giants, which were impossible to do with conventional realm travel due to Jotunheim tower being missing. Mimir, whom Kratos freed through decapitation and resurrection, redirects them into attempting an alternate means of reaching Jotunheim through the Mountain Peaks' portal-bridge; the magical chisel was necessary to carve the rune on the bridge.

The trio thus traveled to the village ruins where Thamur's body lies. After going through a lot of trouble, including having to face Magni and Modi, they managed to reach Thamur's Chisel and collect a shard of it.

Though later their attempt was foiled by the timely intervention of Baldur, leading to the bridge's destruction, the Chisel Tip remains useful to Kratos as a tool to unlock magically sealed doors spread across the realms. Among these doors are the ones hiding secret chambers where the corrupted Valkyries are sealed.
