[edit] Mythology

Wraiths where said to be a type of ghost or spectre in Medival myths.

[edit] In the God of War series

Wraiths are ghostly beings that appear as foes throughout the God of War series. They appear as eyeless, emaciated humans with decaying flesh and bladed arms. Instead of legs, their waists terminate in clouds of black smoke from which they float. They can collapse themselves into this smoke and float around beneath the earth, exploding up from beneath Kratos' feet to attack him. Kratos can kill Wraiths by grabbing them by one of their arms; throwing them to the ground; ripping off the arm; and then decapitating them with the arm's blade. In God of War, Wraiths are the vengeful ghosts of those who died in combat opposing Ares. Utterly consumed by the rage in which they died, they now attack any living thing that comes near them. Kratos encounters them in Athens, and he also encounters them in Pandora's Temple while going in search of Pandora's Box. In God of War II, Wraiths are present on the Island of Creation. They could be searching for the Sisters of Fate, or they could possibly be protecting them.
